Hi..
I am in zone 8 more or less in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas.
I am thinking of putting in a labyrinth and thought I would use ornamental grasses with paths cut through it..Does anyone have recommendations for an ornamental grass for this part of Texas?
Thanks,
princessnonie
Need Idea's for using ornamental grass
I don't really know about building a labyrinth , but I love Japanese silvergrass. How high do you want it to be.
About 5-6 ft would be ideal..
I have no experience with labyrinths either but maybe somebody else can offer suggestions..
The Japanese Silvergrass is pretty but
I probably need a large grass that
I can grow from seed..
Thanks,
Lynn
I'm a big fan of Big Muhly Grass - drought resistant, tall and wide, lovely seed heads in fall, full sun or part shade. I have never tried growing it from seed, but you might want to look into this native variety.
I had thought of Gulf Muhly..It has beautiful pink seed heads that sort of glow in the right light.
I need to find a seed source tho, because I need a lot of it..
Do you cut it back in winter?
Thanks...I love the Muhlys too...

Gulf Muhly is lovely - it takes just a bit more water, but not a lot. I haven't had any luck locating a commercial seed source for Gulf Muhly, but I bet that anyone growing it would be happy to send you packages of seed in late fall/early spring. Just post a request on Dave's. Good Luck!
Thanks for the information..
I just needed to know that it would come true from seed..I'll look around for a source..
I'm intrigued by your name..Are you a cat lover?..We certainly are and I can picture them all hiding in the Muhly...

I have one cat and seven little dogs, but my son split his sports loyalties between Missouri State and the Kansas Wildcats....mocat. LOL! Anne
