Distance needed between different plant varieties

Poolville, TX

I have cucumber, watermelon, and pumpkin seeds (and a couple of different varieties of each). How far away do I need to plant therm from each other?

Thanks for any replies.

I have really good soil so I grow cucumbers really close--about 3"-4". And I grow a lot of different cucumbers. Watermelon I put here and there around the feet of tall perennials so I don't try to do them close. Don't do pumpkins at all any more.

Jennifer ~ are you asking to prevent them from crossing? Are you intending to save seed?

Poolville, TX

Yes, I don't want them to cross. I am not planning on saving seeds but don't want to *mess up* the plants.

Someone posted they planted different varieties of pumpkin close to each other and the pumpkins that grew turned out funky. I don't want that to happen with my cucumbers, watermelons, pumpkins, etc.

Never has happened with cukes

None of those should be able to cross with each other. But since they are all pollinated by bees, it really isn't practical to separate them.

Thanks for the replies. :)

So, I shouldn't worry that one variety will affect the other variety of the same plant?

Ex- My Calypso cucumbers won't affect my Dasher IIIs or my small sugar pumpkins won't affect my big max, right?

As long as you are not saving seeds. One exception, the parthenocarpic (seedless) cukes are sometimes less tasty when pollinated.
