On the bloom thread there was some talk about the difference in these two. To help make it clearer, how bout
we all post pics of the H. fungii or the H. motoskei that we all have....
I'll start - Here's my H. motoskei
H. fungii / H. motoskei
Very good show of the differences!!! If only new people would look at old threads....sigh!
H. fungii (I got it as H. carnosa from Vietnam) usually has dark green leaves with darker venation. They all are related to H. carnosa...clear sap, like to dry out between waterings and will tolerate cooler temps and less light than most others.....
And I'm surprised that my H. fungii is doing as well as it is - I have it out on my west-facing lanai. Granted the avocado tree gives it some shade, but it gets filtered morning light and quite a bit of sun in the afternoon - I guess it must not be too much though ! It's grown leaps and bounds since I put it outside..
Adaptable little devils, aren't they!!!!
I would say it's H. motoskei - what do you guys think ?
Motoskei.
Yup. I like the trellis too!!!!
Well, I guess I'll have to change the name tag and then all the pictures in my photos folder.
The trellis is from HomeDepot. They come two in a package. I bought two pkgs. because some of the other hoya I have put out such long vines. I didn't know what else to do with them, but to wrap them around the trellis.
I tried bending bamboo stalks but they just break in the middle. I have a massive bamboo grove from backyard neighbor. His bamboo is growing towards and into my yard.
The bamboo hoops I have from China are burned (heated really hot) and then bent. I suspect the bamboo is soaked to be very wet so with the burning it will bend).
Thanks
Carol, it must be it's time. Mine is blooming her head off. This is by far the largest hoya I have. It has five peduncles that are all open. I'm so happy to see blooms.
