Has anyone tried those crystals? On the container it is polyacrylaminde copolymer but when I asked jeeves this came up-polyacrylamide copolymer. They obsorb water and are suppose to cut down watterings, by releasing the water back into the soil as it dries. I am going to try them soon, once I am ready to start some cuttings. I will repost once I use them. Thanks Leah

Leah...you had better make sure the hoyas you use them with like wet all the time. There are some that do like to dry out. But then, you grow such beautiful hoyas, you can probably overcome that. Personally, I wouldn't go near them but then I don't live in AZ!!!!
Hi, Carol
I guess all that orchid mix I put in with some more fine soil is why my soil dries out so fast. So the crystals and orchid mix are going to cancel eachother out so to speak. My plants dry out so fast some I water daily, during this time of the year. I have lots of hoyas I got from you that I lost ID tags on I have to take pix to see if you or anyboby else can help me id them. Thanks for you comment . Leah
Have you ever tried getting some spagnum moss to put on the top of your pots? Keeping the spagnum damp will help the pot not evaporate as quckly...also clay pots dry out so much faster. The danger can be the roots 'cooking' in the pot....so it is important to keep the soil cool as possible.
I have tried the spagnum moss but, it has been a while. I do prefer clay pots, so they match I think they look better. The pots I use are ones that I have sprayed 3 layers of polyurathene on the inside. I will put the moss back on the plants. thanks Leah
So far this stuff is the only way I've been able to root H. curtissii. It root very fast using this and the other ways I have tried it dies very fast.
Leah, How is it that you've rooted H. curtissii? Using the spagnum moss or the crystals? I'm trying to root one now in moss, and it's going kinda slow.
Thanks. Sarah
I used the crystals and it roots very fast, the roots start in 2 or 3 days. Your welcome Leah
