I got this hoya from Lowes not to long ago and I finally decided to look it up in plant files...but every picture I look at of the Hoya Bella does not look like this one. It has not bloomed so I cant go off of that. Here are some pictures.
Hoya Bella???
Hi,
That is not H. bella...it's H. incurvula (also called H. brevialata). Exotic Angel is notorious for mislabeling. Nice plant...
Gabi
Thank you so much...the h brevialata does look like it....I cant wait for it to finally bloom. :D now those white spots on the leaves is that anything to worry about? It wasnt taken care of at the store so I have cleaned it up alot. I just need to take the time and clean the leaves off.
Hoyas often have 'freckles' on the leaves.
it is hard to tell if it is H. brevialata or H. incurvula...which are different species...flowers should tell. Usually the leaves should be different, but the clones i have been seeing all look alike!!!!
Yes, I've heard they were different species. Actually, Carol has a great picture of the leaf differences on Plantfiles. Here ya go (just scroll down to the 3rd and 4th pic on the right of the page): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/82508/
I wonder if the typical one sold by EA is brevialata or incurvula. I would guess brevialata based on Carol's leaf photos. But like she said, flowers should tell.

Generally how long does it take them to bloom? I have had this plant for I say about 2 months now. I also have had my other hoyas (Krimson Queen and Krimson Princess). I posted a thread here for the Id where the pictures are of them. None of them have gotten blooms? So, just woundering if I need to change where I have them placed infront of the bay window or what? Thanks.
My EA brevialata or incurvula just bloomed for the first time a couple of months ago - one umbel - and I've had it since September of 2007. My very first hoya!
Kelly,
Got a pic?
WOW.....I guess I will be waiting for a couple years hopefully not that long...they are here in my daughters bay window and everyday she checks to see if there are any star flowers are she calls them. Here is a somewhat good picture of what she has in her playroom. I will have to get a better picture of the window once my camera stops being tempermental and lets me use the flash.
Here is what she has: Croton, Krimson Queen Hoya, Krimson Princess Hoya, Wandering Jew, Neon Pothos, (cant remember the other hanging plant), Fittonia (pink and red version), baby hawaiian spider plant, and a Corn Plant( i think they call it that). Oh and Green Coral (euphorbia flanaganii cristata). All of her other succulents I moved because the cats kept tipping them over to see out the window.
I am sure there will be more plants in there really soon.
Here's a link to the pic: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5824602 It was a little longer ago then I though! The flowers are cute!
Kmiragliotta- the last plant hanging to the right - looks like the self watering pots I use with semi-hydro. What kind of plant hanger are you using with it?
Kelly
Well, if that is the same EA the rest of us have, it
looks like brevialata not incurvula. To me.
To be more precise.... a cutting can take anywhere brom 2 months to 12 years to bloom....give or take. Plants are the same!
:>)
