One of my dogs was involved in a horrible fight a couple of weeks ago. Most of her injuries were very deep puncture woulds in and near her abdomen and in her groin area and legs. There was a tremendous amount of trauma.
So, we brought her home, all stitched up, tubes, etc., and put her in a crate with her e-collar. Within days she had pulled out the tube and then somehow managed to chew a hole in her outside flank (left rear flank), the e-collar actually was cutting into her newly made wound. Then I bought a BITENOT colllar. Roxy could still get to the wound. Then I put the BITENOT on her with the e-collar. Not able to reach the wound, she now went for her tail. So, I taped her tail up and put a little chili powder on it.
Now, I have a short tether on her, along with all the collars, and hopefully she will not be able to get to any part of her body. I have also kept her on ACE to help keep her calm. Other suggestions besides ACE would be welcomed as well.
I have heard that there is a mesh sleeve that is used on horses when an area cannot be stitched up. I was hoping someone might know about that, and I hoped someone might have some suggestions that will keep Roxy situated so that she cannot get to anywhere.
I am at wits end with her, and poor dear, she lets me do anything I need to help her. There just has to be some sort of rigging that will keep her comfortable and in place and a mesh sleeve that will breathe and hold her gaping wounds together.
Thanking you all in advance,
Melissa
