Rooting Hormone for Cuttings?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Is there an organic alternative to rooting hormone for rooting cuttings? I'd like to venture into cuttings this year, but am totally organic and looking for something to jump start my cuttings.

Years ago I heard that taking willow branches and making a strong infusion would do the same thing as rooting hormone. I have never tried it but some organic growers swear by it, or at least they did then. ;-)

I believe the method would be just to soak willow new wood, young twigs, cut up a bunch of it, in water, probably for long enough for it to start to get kinda smelly, I believe I remember that part. You wouldn't want to heat or cook it, I don't think.

I am sure you could do a google and find the correct "recipe". But it wouldn't be rocket science. Two major hormones are used for rooting, NAA and IBA. Willow bark (the live part) contains NAA, and aspirin too. A better infusion would be with stripped bark. And smooth bark from young twigs, I would assume, would be the best.
