I just bought the kit in the picture, and a panel for a greenhouse tray for 32 (3 oz solo)

Linda is very nice. I just "met" her through ebay. She has a violet that I just HAVE to have, but I'm on her waiting list.

Tell her I said hello!!

This is the one I'm on a waiting list for

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

That is neat I have seen them But alas Turtle chi She showed me how to do it with a grid that we got at Lowes I got 4 out of one and I think that the price was 10 buck

Here is a better picture of the grids

The grids look great, but her point about her panels is evaporation.

She said hers keeps the evaporation down, and keeps the fertilizer water from concentrating itself, once the water starts to evaporate.

Jim-
I'd tell you the name but then you'd want one, too, lol!!!

She said after I emailed her about if she had more (lost the bid after it went to $30!!) and she said 17 other people had emailed her "begging for some, too".
:0)

I'm sure you can ask her all about it in person, when you see her, and if you are "connected" you may be able to get one before I do...

Then, I would be jealous and would be begging YOU!, lol...

Williston, ND

i dont want anymore violets unless they are special ones, and i like green flowers but i was only curious,

From my understanding with Linda, she is growing out of a greenhouse.......totally different picture from how I grow inside the house..........so I like permanest trays and grids........

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

is there a website for those?...I'll check it out

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Permanest trays you can get at IGS or Park Seeds, etc. Alot of places sell pre-cut grids, too . . . but you'd do better on the grid to go to HD or Lowe's and get the grid yourself . . . it is something like $12.00 per sheet, and you get I think 4 normal size grids out of it. It is real easy to cut with wire cutters.

thanks

I checked out parks' but they are kinda high(as always), but found this site with great prices and all kinds of other neat stuff:

That plant looks like my Wrangler's Green Pastures. Blooms like crazy and the blooms last forever. Little pink and green cabbages.

Sally-
I've been intereseted in that one, but I go back and forth. Some pictures of it are gorgeous and others are ho-hum.

Is it more pink, or white?...maybe I should add that to one of my orders...

It is my understanding that the one I showed a picture of is not released. Only the hybridizer and a few people she has shared it with, have it

South, TX

The plant I have is stunning. I will have to get more photos. She is full of buds right now. FRILLY, green and white leaves. That is important! The blooms are little cabbages. Precious and long lasting. I will have pictures in a few days when the buds open fully. Super cool large plant.

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

please post a picture when it is ready
...I just added it to my order...lol...

Have a question. My Mom is getting into AV's but she is overwatering them, this much I know and that is all I know about AV's. So for a full grown AV which size container above would you purchase? She is 84 and loves to piddle with the plants. Which size would you buy to start plants from leaves.

Thank you for your help.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

If she is going to start from leaf cuttings, a 3 oz solo cup works for most size of AV's. The question will be what to stick the leaves in . . . many people use a 50/50 mix of perlite/vermiculite, others use the same soilless mix they grow their violets in. It is whatever works best for a person . . .

As for pot size . . . generally (for showing purposes) . . . a pot 1/3 the leaf span of the plant is good. For instance, a 12" across plant would need a 4" pot. Not a "normal" pot, she would want what is called a 4" azalea pot. These pots are a bit shallower than the "normal" 4" pot. For non-showing purposes, I suppose you could put the plant in any size container you want.

She could try "wicking" the violet. This entails having a type of cording (acrylic I think is preferred) stuck up thru the soil, and having the other end hanging out the bottom of the pot into a container holding water. That way, she can put water in the reservoir, and the plant will suck up the water it wants.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The 3 ounce solo pots are bought at your local grocery ..........the kind you use when you brush your teeth and they usually are in a dispenser...........you can buy them for practically nothing, put a slit with your scissors on either side of the bottom of the solo....................as Syrumani said......wick them with acrylic cord #18 through #24........in pots of equal vermiculite and perlite......and place them on some kind of felt and dome them until you see babies coming..........

For every day grown ones, you can wick just like she said.........or tell your mom to only water once a week with 1/2 cup of water with fertilizer in it. My great aunt gave them no more water than that from the bottom sitting in the water until the water was absorbed.........that amount of 1/2 cup was for a 4" pot............

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

What gail said, too . . . ^_^

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Thank you all so much. I know she gets bored and waters way too much. Moms don't listen to their kids...LOL doesn't matter how old the kid is....LOL Think I will get some started trays as advertised, then she can start some leafs, then if she loses some to too much water she will have a replacement.

Again thank you all.

Highland, IL

Hey happygarden! Tell your Mom not to feel bad, I was doing the same thing at 40!!!! Just had to piddle with them!!LOLOL These gals know their stuff, they even helped me get blooms!! Also, I have an eye dropper that I can still dribble a little water from the top if they get dry without overdoing it and still get my fix!!

Laura H

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

That is a good idea the eye dropper....she just loves to mess around with them and our winters seem so long especially when you are stuck inside an apartment day in and day out. We gave her lucky bamboo cause all it wants is water.....seriously thought about hydrophonics or what ever that is called, but darn I don't think I want to learn anything new, I just want to play with my flowers also....LOL
