I'm interested in trying a brug for the first time! I've looked at them in plantfiles, and it seems a great many of them could be hardy in my Zone 7b. Several I saw mention them being pest magnets. I'm wondering if you all could recommend an easy one to start with? On the smaller side, not a pest magnet, nice fragrance?
I've started some Datura for the first time this year. Do Brugs have the same unpleasant foliage fragrance as the Datura? That was quite a surprise the first time I brushed up against the seedlings!
Best Brug for a newbie
If you want yellow/orange try Dr.Seuss.If it's pink you want then Painted Lady is one which gives little trouble.Peach? Then Georgia Peach or Delta Dawn might be a good one for a first timer.White?Try Cypress Gardens,or Elizabeth if you want more fragrance.
Brugs leaves have no odor that I can detect.
Mites, aphids, caterpillers and grasshoppers like to munch on brugs but they aren't that hadr to deal with.
Thanks! Is there anyone out there that wants to trade for cuttings of any of these? I guess my preference would be yellow or peach, but I'd try any of them!
I was watching a documentary a few weeks ago about locust swarms in American history showing clouds of locusts descending on crop fields. Ugh! While our yearly grasshopper invasion don't qualify as a locust invasion because the grasshoppers don't undergo a physical change, they certainly do a lot of damage. They are not satisfied eating just the leaves. They eat branches and trunks as well. By the time you see them flying, it is too late to put out bait. Other methods of killing them are not very efficient. You kill only a few.
I can deal with mites, caterpillars and aphids, but grasshoppers are another story. I'm hoping this extreme drought we are in has killed the tons of grasshopper eggs lying in the top 3 inches of pasture soil or it will be another year of frustration. Going out to see how big buds are getting only to find them half chewed or lying on the ground. Thanks for letting me vent. LOL.

Do grasshoppers eat iris foliage? I had great big bites taken out of mine last summer, and grasshoppers appeared to be the only things around that were big enough to do that!
Gordos choice of Isabella is excellent.I tried to pick the easy ones and Izzy certainly fits in that group.
