I moved to this area a little over a year ago when I got married. I am 38 my husband is 43. I am from the East/dry side of the Cascade Mountians origanely :-) Now I live on the West/Wet side of the mountians.
We lived in a small apartment untill this April. Now we're clearing out vines, shrubs, ferns and weeds around our new house to make flower, herb and vegetable gardens and lawn. :-) And I am trying to discover what grows well here, is pretty and the deer will only nibble on not kill. :-) I won't have anywhere to plant much untill maybe late fall but most likely not untill spring except on my deck in planters (it's a little deck about 10' x 11'). I also love house plants, I got married one year ago as of July 29TH! :-) When I moved into my husbands apartment I had to leave most of my house plants with my parents 200 miles away. They didn't get watered propery and most of them died. Now we have a house and I am slowely trying to replace my house plants. :-) I guess that's all for now. I look forward to trading here as and when I can, and when I have nothing to trade I hope some people will be willing to send a few plants and/or seads for postage. :-) I know I will be willing to send seeds and plants for postage sometimes.
My husband says the ferns are weeds. I have sent out around 150 # including packaging of my ferns to people mostly for postage a few for trades when I can afford the postage. this is my "Save the ferns campaigne." :-)
Update 8/7/2001 I am putting in a 2 - 1 1/2' x about 8' flower bed in partial shade. :-D Yaaa!!! I'm planting in our own soil and will able to watch my plants grow for many years. :-) :-/ BUT even though our house has lots of windows we are surropunded by trees so we get little sunlight in the house. I'm having to try to find low light house plants. I was used to having a south facing window with lots of light. I'll have to compleatly re-learn about house plants as I will have to find ones I never used before. :-)
Update 9/13/2001
The flowerbed I was going to put in was at the base of a big cedar stump that is covered with moss and has huckleberries growing out of the top of it. One evenening about sunset my husband and I abserved TERMITES!! flying out of my stump. :( It will hav to go. I am going to plant some annuels around the base of it but that's all as my stump has to go. :-( I will take many, many pictures of it first. I love my stum and had so may plans for a woodland gaden around the base of it. I am so dissapointed. Haven't decide where I will do flowerbeds instead....
Sorry didn't know I was supposed to introduce myself.
Welcome to DG, NewPenny, and a belated happy anniversary! I'm sure you'll find takers for your "save the ferns" campaign, and you're also bound to find lots of generous gardeners with seeds and plants for postage.
Glad you're here!
Hi NewPenny, Welcome to Daves, Sounds like you have quite an adventure ahead of you, isnt it exciting to have your own dirt to plant in. Good luck!
Hi and welcome, Penney. The ferns you sent me are doing great. Just wanted to welcome you and tell you I hope you enjoy DG.
Martela
Thank you Martela. Only a few people have let me know how there ferns are doing. I sent them to new homes hopeing they would do well. It's nice to hear from people who got them and let me know they are doing well. :-)

Thank you all for your welcome. :-) I have taken a beak from digging, packaging and mailing ferns but will be back at it soon. I'll post here when I have more available. It's not a lack of ferns it's a lack of Energy on my part. :-) But I still intend to save every fern I can. Here's the URL to a web page with pictures of some of my ferns. http://www.geocities.com/nowhopefull2/Ferns.html
Welcome Penny! Those are gorgeous ferns!
Welcome from the heart of dixie...
