Oh great, 35 degrees coming up

Savannah, GA

And my tomatoes and peppers are really coming along. The tomatoes have blossoms, are staked and caged, i don't think I can cover them. The peppers seem to be growing slow but they are doing well.

What are my chances of coming threw it unscathed? Is there anything I can do? This is the second time I planted tomatoes and basil because the first ones were killed by a frost.

My strawberries are doing well, although if I do not do something soon it will be birds that lose the crop.

29 or 30 predicted here tonight......I am shaking in my bootsies....Tomatoes all have fuzzy blooms on them.

I'd drape sheets or anything you can over them to protect the tops, better than nothing, and I don't think they have to be covered to the ground. Spring frosts are different that fall. from Missouri Botanical Gardens: Since cold air sinks, low areas freeze earlier in the fall and later in the spring.

I was thinking of putting a bunch of tiki torches in the garden, you know, like they do the orange groves in florida. I have mine staked and caged, I don't know if I can put sheets over them.

Crap!! I just checked, it's now predicted to be 33 tommorrow night!! I'm off tommorrow, that gives me all day to think of something. I think if I take the stakes out and leave cages I can drape sheets over those.

Hopefully you were able to cover your plants and they came through ok. Looks like I dodged the bullet and we didn't get much below 40. I know someone who is outside misting their plants right now trying to save the plants from 29 degrees. :|

Crazy weather. :(

We dodged the bullet here too. It got down to freezing but wind stayed at 7 mph most of the night so frost was minimal. I had everything covered with pots and used plastic sheets (some don't approve but it works for me) and nothing got burned by frost.

wonderful news! our bad night is tonight, supposed to be clear and calm.

Wishing you luck cathy4! We're supposed to get down to 38 tonight and also will be calm. Hope we don't get a surprise frost.

Thanks, I've covered what I can, hope you all don't get any bad surprises.

Well I covered what I could. They keep changing how cold it's going to get tonight. Earlier today the were saying 31, then I looked and it was 37. Now it's back down to 35. I got some sheets at salavation army. The lady knew what I was using them for. She was smart and didn't plant hers yet.

We got down to 32 Tues but only 38 last night. Tues I covered all the fruit trees and bigger plants with sheets of plastic and put pots over the smaller plants. I have 18 tomato plants that are big enough now that I had to use 5 gallon buckets to cover them. Everything came through great :-} Hope y'all did as well as I did.

I'm pleased to have dodged the bullet as well. Yesterday the forecast went from 31 to 34 and back to 31 at bedtime. Very nerve wracking. This morning the report is that it only got to 41. I don't know how they can be so off target but, for once, I'm not going to complain about it.

We went down into the 20s, but things don't look too bad, thank goodness.

Savannah, GA

It only got down to about 37, everything seems fine. Here is a pic of my first tomato!!!

LOL! I just brought my tom seedlings over to look. I said, See that? That's what you're supposed to do, that's the way.......

Glad for your weather reprieve!
