I usually just buy a new plant in the spring.

I just got an order of 6 plants from this company today of varieties that are hard to find around town (like real french tarragon--sooo much superior to mexican mint marigold if you really cook a lot with herbs) or I wasn't going to spend the time to drive all over and find. Unbelievable quality and deep pots--$3.95 each. Best quality herbs I've gotten in the mail--ever! But I did not get their lemon thyme--but they have it, and lime too.

It is in the plant section. Not the seeds

Anyone but me noticed the utter crap they got in the garden centers as far as herbs go and the total lack of real good varieties too? And the outrageous prices they want for them? And I'm talking the quality garden centers too; not just HD, Lowe's, and Walmart (I cringe everytime I even have to type that name).

I just put in my second order from:
http://www.pantrygardenherbs.com/

The first order plants have quadrupled in size for me since planting and shipping for 12 was only $12.77 and for 6 was $12.05 (my trial offer to test the company). My only regret is that they only ship live plants April-June which still leaves me out for all the winter growing herbs down here. Their packing/shipping methods are phenomenal, unbelievable. Since most of the varieties of herbs, other than basils, I really like have to be vegetatively propagated--these guys get all my herb business now; I'll just vegetatively propagated those that won't over winter here and continue the line.

I'm always amazed at the prices of herbs. Of course, I haven't been to any centers yet as the season is just starting up here.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm glad I have a local herb garden here to go to. There isn't a whole lot of choice at the garden centers here either.

That's why so many of my herb purchases are on-line anymore. It's tough finding anything slightly different at a garden center. If you like lemon thyme, try rose-petal thyme. It smells heavenly.
