EB's and Raised Beds and the Economy Year Two

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I didn't set my heirloom tomatoes out quite as early this year but they are already much larger. Last year we picked tomatoes from May until the end of Nov. as the pool is solar heated and kept them warm. I have added one more 4X4 mini raised garden so now there are 4 minis and have kept the biggie (4X16) full. Our cool weather crops are phasing out but the sugar snaps are prime. We had greens and cabbages all winter.
I bet we have saved a fortune in veggies this past year and have also eaten better. Has anyone ever figured out how to calculate how much money we save in a season or even just have a ballpark figure?
I am all about the new victory gardens. We're finally trendy!

Great job !!!!! I haven't bought any produce from the grocery store since December 1st. Hard to say how much I saved, but it is plenty and like you said much healthier

Beautiful Aquannie, everything looks so pretty and healthy. I'm growing my Victory Garden in stackers, pots and growbags. I didn't get optimum results last year, because I was too much of a newbie, but when my husband came home with some sad looking okra at $2.99 a lb. I knew it was time to do something. So Iplanted okra. We must have gotten 50 lbs of okra off those plants over many months, so I figured right there we saved $150.00, all I did was dig a trench and throw in a little worm castings and some potting soil to loosen it up and tossed in the seeds, watered it sometimes and away it went. I still have a bunch of seeds left from that $1.50 pack for this year.

I plan to weigh my produce and compare the price to the grocer's prices to see how much I save this year. I'm trying to grow a bunch of gourmet type and oddballs, some of which are hard to find and very expensive items and do a rough calculation that way this time. We ate a lot of eggplant, tomatoes, yard long beans, squash and okra last year and didn't buy that many veggies, though I am going to have a lot more diversity in the garden this time. (got sick of eggplant and okra after awhile).

I won't be adding in the cost of materials to my calculations because much of what I have can be used for many years and I figure not having to eat the Frankenfood from the grocer's produce department is worth at least that much in health benefits.

Aquannie: What a lovely set up you have. I have spent a fortune this year, last year was pretty unsuccessful with my toms and peppers; but this year, I hope will be better.
