rose breasted grosbeaks

Dixon, IL(Zone 5a)

is there a map to track where these birds are at on their migration route? i look forward to seeing them every year. Last year they stayed in my yard for a little over 2 weeks. what a beautiful bird they are. I am in northern Illinois and do not remember when they were here the last couple years. This year I will put it on my calendar.

Hi Lynn, I searched but all I'm seeing is range maps.

I am surprised there is not a lot about this wonderful bird. I wish they would stay longer but I also read that they like to nest along water routes. If you find anything, let me know. By the way, how long have you been a birder? You seem like you know alot and have had the interest a long time. This is my fourth year and it is soooooo addicting and relaxing and entertaining.

A birder? I'm not sure. I've been feeding and watching birds a long time if that's what constitutes a birder.

Each year it becomes more serious of an obsession. I would say I wanted to start really learning about them seven years ago beginning with Hummingbirds.

It is addicting, relaxing and entertaining!

The only thing I know for sure is that there is something new to learn everyday. :-)

I know I only had them coming to my feeders for like a week or so and I live very close to a lake.

Mrs. Ed had a few too, but I don't remember for how long. She is in northern Illinois too.

Mrs. Ed is only about 15 miles from me in the next town. Such a small world it can be. I am actually surprised how many juncos are still here. They will be leaving soon and then I think that is when I noticed the grosbeaks here.

I've seen the Rosebreasted Grosbeaks here for quite awhile in the summer. And we still have Juncos too. Love both of them.
