Big Mac or Little Mac

North Augusta, ON

It was discovered in another thread that some H. macgillivrai have large leaves while some have small leaves. Mine has small leaves...pictured in this post.
Doug's has HUGE leaves pictured in the link.

What makes Mac's leaves large? Is it growing conditions or the plant itself? Will cuttings from a large leaved one make large leaves?

Mine has both small and large leaves. However, mine also has dark red new leaves, and doesn't look like either yours or Doug's. I suspect there are a few different clones out there. But I'm certainly no expert, I just like to grow them.

There are about 4 or 5 different clones from different locations in Australia...if you look at DL's catalogue he lists them....

'splains much. His descriptions of the flowers are helpful, but "rain forest foliage" or "rain forest type leaf" doesn't tell me much. Oh well, we can only wait for blooms. And, of course add humidity...

Mine are reluctant to bloom because we are SO humid here. All of those hoyas from Australia like to be grown DRY in the winter and lots of water in the summer. When I have less plants to take care of I will be able to do it. I water H. archboldiana maybe once every 2 weeks in the winter....and that is more than they get in the wild.

The leaves on the macs are all pretty much alike...maybe smaller by a bit, or larger.

I have 2 macs...one has all small leaves like the one 3G's pictured above, and the other has mostly big leaves like the one in Doug's picture. I can't wait for them to bloom so I can see if there is a difference in blooms.
