I read someplace that the Mexican Sunflower attracts hummers. Does anyone have this plant in their yard? Have you noticed hummers around this plant?
Will this flower attract hummers?
I've read that too Marilyn but I don't have them here.
Marilyn, I do seriously believe hummers are highly attracted to anything red. I've a picture window, and inside my kitchen with red pots and pans, and the hummers knock the glass window wanting to get inside, lol. I don't have the plant either, I do know they love my butterfly bush. :-)
I have Mexican Sunflower and have never seen a Hummingbird near it.
The reason I was asking is that I just planted some seeds in hopes of attracting hummers. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I also have a Mexican Flamevine in full bloom but have never seen a hummer go to it.
The only hummer that I had come by back in Nov. like my firespike. Since the frost we had my plants aren't blooming. Haven't seen the hummer since.
Neither my Firespike or Firebush are blooming yet, the Firebush was severely damaged by the freeze, but is recovering nicely, and should be blooming pretty soon. I only saw a hummer a few times after the bushes froze back, but I rarely see any at this time of year.
I visited the opening Farmer's Market today. I knew there wouldn't be much produce, but was looking for plants. I bought a couple of Autumn Sages. They are a small bush with brilliant coral flowers. I'm digging up a couple of red Bararbarys and replacing with these. The will be in a bed near one of my HB feeders. I plucked a pick off the net, blooms look the same, but mine have prettier green foliage. Supposed to get about 3 feet tall.
