Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Hi Gail: I am not sure how long its going to take but I have some purple that will be back outside in about 10 days. It will have to flush so I can get some cutting stock off it. I saved the moma plant in a 15 gallon pot. Its twigy but has ity bity sprouts all over it. I am thinking it will flush real quick.

Hi Gail,

I have white cat whisker's I can share with you in a few more weeks. If not on the address exchange send me your address.

Dave if you could spare even one cutting of your purple for me I would greatly appreciate it too. If you would like to have some white ones let me know.

You know its funny because I tried so hard to get some whits and I didn't manage to do it. I would love to trade with you. I am hopeing to get the purple one outside this weekend. I just have to see what the weatherman forcasts. he's pretty accurate and my internal baromiter went off this morning so its will be interesting to see what we get over night.
I will send you my address tomorrow am.

Thank you so much Dave. Funny because I didn't know they had them in other colors until I came across this thread. I am so happy I cannot wait until they are ready. I know it might be a little bit of time since this winter season seems not to want to leave us yet.

I've had enough with the winter frost especially in almost mid april in Florida. Crazy weather! Hopefully it warms up soon for you. Thanks again.

Hi Arlene: Yes its been crazy weather. we went from 70's to snow litterally overnight, a couple of weeks ago. This week we had 3 nights of extream cold and today is suposed to be 70's. I am going to try to get out and do a couple of things done thats been difficult to do with the bone chilling wind.

I have a question for those of you who have grown cat whiskers. Does it take awhile for the plant to come back after winter dormancy? I had a pretty good sized plant last year and have trimmed it back and it shows little bitty signs of green so it's alive, but it is taking forever to really perk up and grow. Most of my others stuff has lots of leaves and are really green but this plant still looks pretty pathetic.

Hi PH:
Several questions to help us answer the questions. Is the plant inside or outside? How much light does it get? I still have mine inside but plan to move him next week. I expect it to jump right out and become huge real fast. What size pot is it in?

Oh sorry. I have it outside in the ground. It is in part sun. I'm zone 9B and our temps are already in the 70 to 80's most days although we did have a few cooler mornings this week.

PH: It sounds like you are doing it correctly. being in 9a I would expect it to jump up and get going. You might try some osmocote with 1/4 to 1/2 strength liquid fertilizer. Coming out of a cave into the bright sunshine can be a bit of a shock. would think lows overnight not less then 60 degrees would be just what was ordered. At least thats what I ordered for my house.... but they said it was on back order for a few more weeks....LOL Do you have any pics?? I will try to get mine out on the patio tomorrow and take some photos to share.
The only other thing I might try is one of those miracle tonics like super thrive or a root booster from a hydroponics store. I used to turn my nose up at them but now I swear by them. like this

or

and maybe some fuvic acid with fish emulsion or kelp extract. I started useing the stuff this year and I love it. its just a bit pricey when you go adding 3 things to the water for a push. but it works. I managed to get some cuttings to root which were just sitting there doing nothing. here are the roots of the boxwood In the pic. what the addatives purpose is to make the plant put on white hairy roots.
I hope this helps. How long has it been in the ground and whats the soil like in the ground? Clay, sandy loam, just plain ole dirt??? How big is the plant?

I planted it last summer and it was beautiful, probably around 2 feet tall. I cut it back though once it went dormant. It has been real slow to come back.

The soil in our area is prone to clay, but I amend my soil and it is in good shape. I put cotton burr compost and alfafa pellets just recently like in Feb/Mar; plus I use fish emulsion and sometimes MG on my plants.

I have some superthrive so I can try some of that; or I have some spray and grow that might give it a boost.

another picture

The left side of the plant didn't have any green on it. It's like one side went kaput but the other side is okay.

PH: I would definately feed it. I am not sure because photos can fool you but they look a little hungry. Being prone to clay ourselves, I have learned that a hole can act like its own container in the ground. I am sure with everything you have done to the ground its just a matter of fertilizer. Being a rapid growing plant its also a high user of food.
Of corse I don't have much room to talk as mine is in the bedroom and is virtually a cave and has not had food in 6 months. I am hopefull that a bit of food and tlc and both yours and mine will pop right out and be huge this year.

I am fixing to get out the FE for my coleus that our in that bed so I'll give it a good drink. Thanks! I also just put out some MG granules that I had so that will hopefully help too.

Thanks for all the input, Dave.

I do try to help when I can. I hope it helps
