Are maiden blooms from an offset, normally different from the rest that will follow?
I traded for this beautiful semi-double pink with lime green edge av.
I've been waiting for ages for it to bloom, and it finally did. I went from pure excitement to disappointment...it bloomed white, not pink, and is single, not semi-double
Is it white because it hasn't aged pink, or is this common for the first bloom to be "not quite right", or did this do that chimera thing on me?
Any help would be appreciated. I really wanted pink ;0(
Maiden blooms: different from the rest??
It's lovely plant but not what you expected. My only suggestion would be to grow cooler in higher light (not sun) and feed with fertilizer higher in nitrogen like 20-20-20 (1/4t./gallon) and see if it helps intensify the color.
I've noticed the first blooms on my Kei-yoki ranged from white w/edging, to a light lavender w/edging. On a few blooms, the color did darken as the bloom got older. Not quite giving up yet, as it is my understanding that blooms on a young plant may take a little time to come "true".
(what GoldLeaf91011 said, too!)^_^
It has the green edge too. I don't think it is as single as you think, it has more than 5 petals, slightly. And it's just one bloom. It's possible that in the next couple of blooms cycles, it will be more like you expected it to look. I think there is a chance anyway, so don't get too disapointed yet. tish
I went back looking through other photos of it, and found this one that was posted of the mother plant.

I am a little encouraged now, because there appears to be a white one behind the pink one...maybe it is just a variable plant, and kicks out different blooms sometimes, according to its mood, lol
What everybody said LOL.
