I have never seen so many really good hoyas on auction
as you can find right now.
Mostly really good prices too, considering they are well-rooted
and grown on.
Makes me wish I had more room. Alas.
Hoyas on auction comment
The only sad thing is when you bid and truly believe you are going to get that coveted hoya-someone comes along the last minute and snatches it away. :)
Years ago, when I started with hoyas, there were not a whole lot of ways to get the rarer ones as it is now. That's a good thing!
I prefer ordering direct from someone who has a lot of varieties and that way it cuts all the different shipping costs.
Great looking plants on Ebay tho.
There's always room for one more hoya. :)

I only tried e-bay once, years ago ... not for plants but I don't remember what it was I was bidding on. I do remember how devastated I was when at the very last seconds, someone outbid me and won the item. My husband has bought and sold on e-bay a few times and he tells me that's just the way it goes. I tried one other time for a friend who was wanting something special for her husband's birthday and she didn't want to do it on their home computer to spoil the surprise ... same thing happened again, right at the last second someone outbid her so she didn't get the item.
So ... I prefer the "Buy it Now" feature!
Many people use sniper programs that do not bid on the plant until the last few seconds. That way, their bid does not show until the last few seconds and they get the item for pennies less than the people who bid all along. I wish they would ban snipers from e-bay. When I list on e-bay, I try to have an extra plant to offer the person that gets sniped at the last second. I just think it is crappy that people don't play fair!
I've always said e-bay combines two of the most compelling activities there are---shopping and gambling :).....at first I was I was upset too when I got sniped (I felt like I was standing in line at the cashier with my plant in one hand and my money in the other and suddenly some total stranger shoved me out of line, grabbed the plant, and ran..) but now I just go into it with the attitude that I probably won't win what I want---but just MAYBE I will...In general I prefer to use the vendors or buy local...at least that way I'm sure of making it to the cashier, paying for my plant, and actually taking it home :D...

I'm hoping some folks will be selling Hoya's on DG Marketplace this year!
I think the DG Marketplace is GREAT!!! I have bought many plants there... hopefully Hoya vendors will be listing there...I have seen Awanda with hoyas there...I would love to see it used by MORE vendors....
I like the DG Marketplace too. Especially Plant Scout!
I have found some hard to find plants there. I wish every DG
member who sells anything would list there.
One thing I forgot - I can't find a source for what is called
AIR Potato.
I know they are a scourge in Florida; but here we can't keep 'em.
Have to be careful to store properly, etc.
My dad loved them and grew them for years. Once in a while he
would lose them, but he had a source to get more.
I miss him. And I wish I had some of his potato vines.
I just took a look at DG Marketplace and it looks like such a better source than Ebay. I will definately consider searching for plants I am unable to find locally. Thanks for the tip for newbies!

Just found Hoyas on the DG marketplace.... Not quite as many as ebay but.... nice selection!!!
Alison - see if Judy/Buttoneer http://davesgarden.com/members/Buttoneer/ still has some of those air potatoes left for trade. Hopefully I'm not confusing her with someone else but I believe she had some.
If it's THIS one you're looking for http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/32235/ then there's a slew of DGers that have it avail for trade http://davesgarden.com/community/trading/search.php?search_text=PFPID:32235

Chantell, gal !!!
Many thanks! That IS it and I will try and horse trade for some.
I am going to have to start getting serious with the DG community
and find some of those sentimental plants I remember from
parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors.
Thank you Chantell.
No problem...I'm all about trading...sadly most the stuff I go for now can't be found on trade lists..LOL
Well, it's no laughing matter.
We finally collect ourselves out of much to trade for.
I hope I have an epi cutting that Buttoneer may want. I just got
some just a few weeks ago of St. Anthony's cereus.
I'll let you know.
ebay can be an addiction, but I have reconciled myself that when I lose to a sniper, its okay...eventually I will get the plant from somewhere, LOL.
I always set a bid that I will absolutely NOT go over, and enter it at the very start on my forst bid. That way, when they bid up and up, they either stop, or I make them spend more than they thought they were going to, LOL
Goth, I do that too. I just add to the shipping what I would
pay for that plant and that is it.
I never heard of a 'sniper'; I heard it was called swooping.
I don't care if I get swooped because they are paying more
than I am willing.
Anything I have missed I either made up later on something else,
or I got some other hoya from some other source and felt great!
