I am involved with a historic house and need herbs to plant there. Please see my post in the Plant Trading forum. I am essentially looking for divisions, but will take some seeds too. I think I can start them indoors at another historic house that has a great, wide windowsill made especially for plants on the landing between the 1st and 2nd floor. Any OLDER type will work well. I hope I can get donations as funds are limited. We don't have much to trade yet, but we will probably have some Bath's Pinks we can divide. Other things include columbine seed (I think just the wild type) possibly some red lobelia seed (cardinal flower) if they come back this year, and others I am not certain of. Please contact me with what you have and I'll look it up to see if it was around prior to 1866.....................thanks
Herbs for Historic House
Woodspirit,
Are you keeping the herb garden period correct?
And, are you growing medicinals, or just culinary herbs?
We are trying to keep the herb garden period correct to no later than 1870. Either medicinal or culinary herbs would be all right but I would definately would want to stay away from anything that might be toxic to kids. We get a lot of kids out there.
I have some medicinal herbs that may be good for your period garden. Valerian, elecampane, blue vervain, agrimony, calendula, milk thistle, blessed thistle, catnip, monarda, lemon balm.... hmmm... I probably have some others that I'm not thinking of. If this is what your after - I'll fix a package of stuff up if you send the postage.
