We live in Mount Vernon but will be in the Dallas area on Saturday (Kessler Park). I'd love to combine the visit with a chance to pick up something new/different or that is usually unavailable from normal 'big box' stores.
Any suggestions?
TIA

DFW area interesting unique garden center/nursery???
North Haven Gardens on Northhaven or Redentas on Skillman just before it turns into Live Oak. (Actually I think the address may be the side street, but I can't remember the name.)
ditto.
Those are the two places I was going to mention, and in that order.
Another nice place to go if you have the time, is Plants and Planters off 75, and Arapaho. They have a lot of things I can't find anywhere else...especially unusual succulents, nice selection of specialty african violets, and a large variety of tropical houseplants.
I also try to go to North Haven and Redenta's whenever I can. Another one that I really like that isn't too far away from those two is Rohde's in Garland.
I've never been to Plants and Planters. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

Dennis-
where is Rhodes?
Here's a Google maps link to it:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=rohde's+nursery,+garland,+tx&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=43.123021,87.011719&ie=UTF8&ll=32.8669,-96.670246&spn=0.089683,0.169945&z=13&iwloc=A
They have a good selection of unusual natives.

By the way, it threw me went I first went there but they pronounce the name like "roadies". :)
Thanks!
I'll have to check that out some day when I have an afternoon of play time
so, we need an update ;0)
did you get a chance to visit any of these??
Yes! Actually have now been to Redenta's twice - I LOVE the place. I could seriously spend way too much there very easily. Good looking plants, good variety, nice people, etc. etc. etc.
Dorothy
Did you get over to Northhaven? That is my very first choice. They are a much larger nursery, but have just as neat of an inventory as Redentas.
At Redentas I sometimes have to chase someone down to help me, but Northhaven always has scads of employees ready to help
I miss going to The Plant Shed on 377 in Fort Worth. It was mine & Samantha's favorite hang out.
