Yesterday I had to make an errand to another side of town
and since the Lowes was next to the on-ramp I went in
There was a blooming lacunosa, solid green!
I didn't buy it and now I feel bad for it. I love the one I have
with purple stems and new growth, and kept thinking "Where
will I hang that? I don't need a lacunosa collection."
I may be going back.
Lonely Lacunosa
hehehe...me thinks you WILL be going back...
can you hear the lacunosa calling???
I've been ignoring that call.
Too far to drive. How many lacunosa's does a
person need?
As many as you can find!! I actually don't have a single one..
***Alison, Alison, Alison***
(in a faint, echoing call)
I'd have a house full of lacunosa! One of my favorite fragrances in Hoya's.
Oooh, interesting ... I haven't heard of a lacunosa with purple stems! Does it have a cultivar name? Do you have a photo you can post? I'd love to see it, sounds really pretty with the green leaves, purple stems and those pretty little blooms!
Oh, I Love the looks of that one! I will have to keep my eye out for it in our local garden centers, although we haven't seemed to get any Hoyas in over a year. The next time I go to visit my sister I'm going to check out their Lowes and Home Depot to see what I might find!
How much sun does that bronzey H. lacunosa grow in Alison ?
It get very bright light, Paula. Where it is hanging in the greenhouse
it is just under the edge of a 50% shade cloth, but the early and late
light get on it.
Is the purple-ish kind called bronze?
I've heard it referred to as bronze, bronzey, bronz-ish ??? Usually it only shows when the plant is getting high light - there are many hoya that this happens to. Like my H. australis...
It looks gorgeous and I was just wondering if it was the high light, and not just a natural habit...
Looks like a keeper to me !
Well, then, I definitely made a mistake. One of the Home Depots about an hour from me now had a bunch of those bronze lacunosas in. If I had only known, it turns purple, I would have snapped it up in a minute. At that time, they were selling 8 inch baskets for under $10. I didn't think I cared that much for lacunosa but since that time bought a really dark green leaf lacunosa and really like it.

Did you ever go back and save it?
I was over there a couple of days ago and if it was the same one
it had no bloom and looked somewhat ragged.
So, no.
I don't know where I would have put it. My home, garage, and greenhouse
are just stuffed. (And that is with cuttings coming as well!) My greenhouse
will get doubled sometime this summer when it is empty. One hopes, at least.
