Red-winged blackbird lands on hawk??

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

A couple of these pictures imply a RWBB actually landed on a hawk. Seems unlikely. Thoughts on what's going on here??

Appears to land given the red of wing showing?

not sure if this is the same encounter but another picture:

Hi evie, Yes they are landing on them but its just for a few seconds. They don't want them anywhere near their nests.

It is neat when someone catches that moment.

Nice pictures of mobbing! The R-wBb's are trying to chase the hawk out of their home patch. They know the hawk isn't too manoeuvrable in the air, it can't suddenly turn round to catch them.

Was just surprised to see the last one where the wings were closed - I would think it would have kept its wings open if it was only there for a sec or two.

Wow, those are really amazing photos. I love the one where the blackbird's wings are closed. It looks like he's riding the hawk.

I think I posted this a year or so ago along with the guys story. I can't remember where I found it though, that was a different computer that is now permanently asleep. :-)
