On another thread I mentioned seeing worm bins in a magazine article, but I just found the article online, complete with pictures and dimensions for the in-the-ground worm bins in a green house. Nice system...

I can't wait to try it! I've certainly got the raw materials!

GH worm bins
Wow, how cool is that?
"Jayryunen" thanks for the link that is an awesome system i think I'll incorporate it into my greenhouses "whitebear"
It has a real practical elegance, doesn't it? =0)
you said it.
WhiteBear, I am very interested in your raising of tilapia, can't remember where I saw the msg that you were doing that. I sent you Dmail asking about it, don't know whether you recieved it or not. I have wanted to raise catfish in a tub in my GH, but can't find a source. I'd happily switch to tilapia, if they taste good! Thanks, Lo
I'm seeing Tilapia on a lot of resturant menus these days, as well in the grocery stores. Last year, I know Denny's even had it. Be worth spending the money on trying it first before you get set up to raise them. Mother Earth News online had a few articles about raising fish and shrimp in pools or large tubs.
Tilapia is a mild white fish, much like cod but thinner. You can pretty much season it any way you like fish.
Thanks, Cathy. I heard that before, but just haven't tried Tilapia yet.
hay "AZgrammie" i talk about it in my thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/965799/ i have about about 300 now with another with eggs in her mouth will be 500 soon i hope.
Why don't y'all start a tilapia thread? I'm just thinking there may be other folks who are interested and they'd never think to look on a worm bin thread...
Bear, thanks! I am off to the other thread. (If I can get my computer to move, it is so slow this morning. Feels more like dialup than satellite.)
Jay...you ROCK! That is a great website link you shared above!
Glad you like it. =0)
I'm thinking of the hot bed concept for heating the GH. I think the beds would have to be deeper than the 18" for worm beds... maybe 3-4'? If you're building new, that'd be backhoe work and then it would be a piece of cake to wall it in. I need to do a test bed to figure out dimensions on the heating idea, though.
In any case, the worm beds are tested and proven!
hay "Jayryunen" took your advice and started a tilapia thread it is at
