Last week I purchased AV Pretty Miss Kelly. The plant looked very healthy and it was blooming. Each day the leaves seemed more 'floppy' and the soil was always wet.Yesterday I knocked it out of the pot.It had been wicked up the center and then the string was wrapped around the rootball twice. The roots had grown around the string and I don't think it could dry out very well.
I removed the old wicking and repotted it and the leaves are feeling firmer all ready.
Do any of you wick this way?

AV Problem I Ran Into
i usually put the wick up one side of the pot, kind of hard to wrap a string around the root ball twice, can't figure that one out. lol

It was new to me,but I'm new to wicking and wasn't sure if a lot of people do it that way.

I've never done that or read where some one did. I hold the yarn (baby yarn) to the side of the pot, put some soil in the bottom, drop the wick-fall where it may and plant the plant. It is the soil that the wick medium is bringing the water to, no need to wrap rootball, thats strange...I wonder how many other people do it like that?...it must be working for who ever you got the plant from if it was big and blooming...different things work for different people because they all water differently and have different soil mixes. Good think you found something wrong before you lost the plant! tish
Yes,I got lucky! I couldn't find anything else wrong with the plant,so I checked the roots. It reminds me of when a plant gets girdled by it's own roots. This must work for some people, because there were a lot of very pretty plants there.
