I currently have a Giant Crimson Mandevilla... I could send a cutting if you will kindly instruct me on the best way to do this, I would be happy to share it with you.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

It sounds wonderful. I am clueless about rooting them, has anyone done that before? Do they root very easily?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

hrmmm, not sure. I will investigate tho.. this could be a learning experience for us both :)

and when I find out, I'll send it to ya.. this one will be on me.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, I have used rooting compound on several things before. I bet they will do fine. Do you have only the red? I have zone envy. I have to over winter here in zone 6. I think the pinks and whites are pretty too!

well, I have a 'mystery' color...LOL, meaning, I bought it at a garden center before it was in bloom, so I am not sure what the color is just yet. I have a feeling that its pink, and you are welcome to a cutting of that as well.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

OK do you want to try first and see if you are successful?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Probably. I think this weekend I will get some root hormone and take a cutting. if you like, I can keep ya updated...LOL, then you will have a better chance of rooting one when I send a cutting to you.

Eunice, MO(Zone 5b)

I root my mandevilla by placing a small pot next to the mandy and then I put a length of vine in the small pot making sure that I have a node in the dirt. I do not cut the vine from the mama until it has rooted. I have failed many times rooting mandy using other methods.

Teresa,

Do you have a hosta that is sun tolerant? I have EEs.

I could also use non-invasive ground covers, or small foliage plants.

I've rooted Mandevilla in florist foam,( the kind they use for live flower arrangements). Use about a 1 1/2 in square of the florist foam, make a hole w/ a toothpick in the center, but not all the way to the bottom. Take your cutting by making an "angled' cut at a leaf node. Dip in rooting hormone, carefully insert in foam, set in some sort of small container w/ water to let foam soak up the water and swell up around the cutting, I cover w/ large sandwich bag and keep in a bright warm spot. I've currently got several cuttings of red, pink that the roots are just starting to show thru the foam ( about 10 days) and just potted up two whites. This method has worked really well for me w/ Passionflowers also, and I'm trying it with a Pipevine now too.
Worth a try.......

Do you have any to trade now? I have an ad in classified, take a look.
Thanks,

Teresa,

The Patriot hosta is gorgeous.

Right now I have some colocaisa Illustris, roughly 8-10 inches tall, in 4" pots.

I also have colocaisa Black Stem, larger than the Illustris.

I have several xanthosoma Sagittifolia, Arrowleaf Elephant Ear.
