I'm a newbie. I have a rooted cutting with a new Y, there are also leaves sprouting along the stem/trunk at nodes. Do I trim those off to encourage top growth?
trim lower leaves off?
It depends on how you want your plant to grow.. do you want it bushy or to grow tall like a standard.. if it has already made a Y then it is not going to do a lot toward growing taller right now. I like to keep all the leaves I can when a plant is new to provide energy for good root growth then when I have a good root foundation, I begin trimming off lower leaves and smaller lower branches... if I have any.. .. mine don't grow very fast here in the desert so I tend to be happy for ANY growth!
I agree with Tammie about leaving the leaves on. I don't know if it applies to Brugmansias, but tree trunks get thicker faster if leaves and small branches are allowed to remain on the trunk for a while.
