CLOSED: Wanted : Live Spanish Moss

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

I would like to get some live Spanish Moss.I have read that we can grow it here in my zone....I was amazed and would love to try. http://spanishmossdirect.com/Spanishmoss.html
I think it looks so beautiful hanging from the trees.

we are pretty much over run with Spanish Moss. I looked at the website in your link and I am sorry but I have to disagree with the bug thing. At least here, in FL where we live (on 5 acres, surrounded by woods, and by other homeowners that are also on wooded 5-7 acre parcels) the moss DOES contain redbugs, chiggers and mites. Especially if it has already fallen from the trees and touched the ground. There is no way to use something like Pyrethrin to eradicate those things here, that's just silliness. We don't use insecticides on our property at any rate, for any reason.

You might want to order their 'clean' moss, instead of having 'wild' moss shipped to you. AT least then if you break out from insect bites, you can pursue a claim with them, LOL. No one I know here brings wild moss into their homes or picks it up off the ground for any reason

Thanks Gothqueen,I want to put it in my trees .I guess I'd like to experiment with what the guy says as far as zones and survival,I have never heard of such.

To kill the bugs that live in Spanish Moss - put it into the microwave and set the timer for 20 seconds, kills the bugs not the plant, just make sure the moss isn't wet or it will cook it.

I have a friend who lives in Ohio who has tried to grow Spanish Moss twice. She lives in the area around Lorain. I don't know where that is in relation to you. She cannot grow it. It will do fine in the summer but freezes to death in winter. She tries to bring a little in to hold over and that works sometimes, but she loses most of it every time she tries

Thank You.
