Why New Seedlings Can Drive You Crazy!!!

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

This is one of my seedlings that bloomed once before this season and that was the first time it had ever bloomed. The cross is Rosamond x Dbl Peach. They were nice looking white-apricot colored blooms but each bloom showed signs of wanting to be a double so I decided to hold her over for at least one more flush. Ok, so two weeks ago she started to flush out. Again singles with double tendencies. I decided to chop her down and compost it. I was busy the rest of the week so I waited until today to go do the dirty deed....Low and behold she put out her first beautiful double blossom....I know she knew that saw was coming out this weekend!!!
So, now I'm sure you guessed it. I decided to hold her over at least until the end of fall 2009 to see which direction she wants to go. Next fall I'll see a new flush and make my decision then.....DANG!!!

Good job Gary, see it pays to be patient.

Very nice, Gary!
Her strange behavior is something I've experienced with both Rosalla and Joli.
Single and double blossoms simultaneously.

I think I'm gonna prop the saw up against her trunk and leave it there as a warning....You'd better shape up or ship out!!!!

Here is a picture of two new fresh blooms that opened this morning. The blooms are really quite shapely and on the large side. They measure about 13 inches long from calyx to the tip of the corolla and about 7" wide. So it's a decent sized bloom. The fragrance is nice. Not overpowering and on the citrusy side. She is really making me think this one out. Each of these blooms also have corolla material up inside them as well. So far I have not seen a single bloom without some type of corolla material up inside it.

Well..Gary.. lovely coloration... the varing color blends is in keeping with it's different flower shapes as well.. a suprise with each one.. I can handle it.. send it out..
Well.. I didn't write the book.. but there should be a place for ocasional doubleing in the next one.. and it should have a name for this class of attitude.. perhaps you should choose one.. I think the populace can embrace such behavior.. can't there be ones such as this one.. rather than it be a poor double... and not bred foward.. or released ..after all it's got a two - color thing going on for interest as well..
distended... stuffed.. and reluctant/occasional .. it's not about perfection.. but uniformity......POOO.. seems perfect the way it is..
