Cheddar Pinks

Kannapolis, NC

Anybody growing these older varieties of Dianthus? I'm thinking of planting some, but want some opinions about how they compare with the later cultivars.

Sadly when I planted mine at the front center of my flower bed I didn't keep track of name. Was one from HD, I believe and all I know is I adore their scent each year...such a soft but wafting scent!! Spreads nicely without being a thug as an added bonus.

Thanks, Chantell. Your endorsement was all the encouragement I need!

LOL you're sweet...I really think you'll like them. Hopefully someone pipes in though with regards to if the scent varies between varieties or not. Mine's a baby pink color

I like all sorts of dianthus, but I don't know the names of most of mine...

That doesn't help, but what might help is knowing how easy Dianthus is to winter sow. :-)

Jill: They're such pretty little plants, too. I have some sprouting in a pot right now, `Arctic Fire,' purchased at Lowe's in a seed packet. Will probably have to order the Cheddar Pinks, as I'm not finding any locally yet.
