I feel so terribly bad about this. Last fall, we were insulating under my raised house with insulation batting on a roll. There were several small pieces left over, so they were just tossed under the house. For the past week or so I've noticed a lot of wrens under the carport. I could not figure out what they were doing until this morning when I saw one flying away with a piece of white material in it's mouth. I looked under the house where the insulation was tossed & immediately saw that some of it has been torn away. The birds are using this as nesting material!. I immediately disposed of all the leftover insulation. I have some leftover straw bales so I cut some into smaller pieces & put it in a large flat plastic bin near where the insulation was. Also added lint from the dryer.
I feel so bad about this. I've been encouraging the birds with feeders, birdhouses & birdbaths and now to have this happen. Is there anything else I can do??

Really Bad Bird Nesting Material
Hi jo, Dryer Lint is bad too because when it rains it does not dry out therefor hurting the chicks.
If you have a pet (cat or dog) 2 inch or less length of their hair is a good thing to put out.
Pelle
Pele, Thanks so much. I'll pick up the lint & put out my terrier's hair - I certainly have a lot of that!!
Your welcome jo! Keep us posted on any nests you see.
