sadly, I must give-up on my large bed of very tall yellow tulips--they have been spectacular---neighbors drive -by and stop.
The deer are feasting on the tulips and I can't deter them---sprays , nets etc.
Any suggestions on the daffodils that grow the tallest? I do want yellow and I am in zone 6. Also which bulb source have you had the most success with? Thanks
tallest daffodils?
I don't know for sure if they are the tallest, but Breck's Colossal are very big and tall. They are bright yellow too. They are my favorite.
By the way, one reason I grow daffs instead of tulips is that the deer and squirrels eat tulips bulbs. I tried caging the bulbs, but it is easier to grow plants the critters won't eat.
Janets,
HMM for tallness. "Stratoshere" is a very tall Jonquilla daff but I don't think it is the most prolific around. Good choices for a nice daff show would be "Gigantic Star" which is HUGE in terms of flower size and moderately tall, and "Marieke" is a nice choice as well with striking yellow blooms that do not nod.
I think Brent and Becky has outstanding daffodil bulbs - an absolutely enormous variety and terrific size and quality. John Scheepers/Van Engelen has a nice selection and great quality/price also especially when buying in bulk (Van Engelen). Both have a nice selection of solid yellow Trumpet and Large Cupped varieties which might suit your needs.
