Greetings fellow gardeners! I've actually posted on here a couple of times already since I joined about 2 weeks ago, and just stumbled onto this area, so I thought I should introduce myself properly. :)
First off, thanks to the owners/operators of this site! It has been an invaluable resource for me in getting a lot of things ironed out with my landscape plans -- from figuring out where to plant some recently purchased additions to my yard, to placement and set-up of my greenhouse (that's a whole other story!), to specific plant information and pictures to help visualize what my now-baby plants will aspire to be one day soon (hopefully).
My gardening experience is probably between the beginner to mid-range. I've spent countless hours in my yards over the years trying to grow things, only to be disappointed in the results, which were more likely due to my lack of educating myself about the plant and soil conditions, sun exposure, etc. After composting I don't know how many hundreds or thousands of dollars in dead plants, I figure it's time for me to get smart (or act it), and try doing things right from the get-go. So far, it's proven pretty successful. I've had two years of returning joy in things I've planted so far, and welcome many more, God willing. So I decided to try my hand with having a greenhouse which was erected just this last weekend. I'm excited to see what good fortune that will bring, as I'm hoping to try some veggies and other plants in there for summer enjoyment.
Not sure what else to put in here, except that I'm happily married (but that could change if I let my plant-love take over the rest of the yard! LOL), have a 10 year old daughter who has an interest in the plant world as well, 3 dogs, a cat, a small fish pond with goldfish and koi (and 3 frogs who've called it home since last August).
Also wanted to say thanks to the couple of folks who -- thus far -- have been so friendly, kind and patient in answering my questions.
~~ Jennifer
Hello from Raleigh, NC
Welcome to Dave's Garden, Jennifer! ^_^
You will have a snake or two in that pond so don't let the little gal dangle her feet in it. I had two baby copperheads in mine last fall. And, looked up to see a huge snake finishing its nosedive into it. Didn't see the flavor snake.
Well the fact that you composted your dead plants gives a hint that you are on the right track.
If you are in Raleigh, you should make plans to go to Plant Delights nursery - and of course for shrubs that are very inexpensive Broadwells. (bring the truck!)
Anyway, Welcome!
hello and welcome to daves garden from upstate new york. you will enjoy this site.
Welcome from south Jersey, Jennifer. Sounds like you have a great handle on things. Congrats on the new GH! Have fun here visiting lots of different forums.
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I love it here, and wish I had more time to peruse, as I know there is so much information and experience around these parts.
And MissingRosie, I am already a Plant Delights addict, and "stimulated the economy" quite well during their recent open house weekends. LOL That's where I've acquired a lot of my plants. I would live there if I could. :)
I would live there if I could. :) ------No worry about that -- Tony Avent won't let you in but a few weekends a year! The botanic gardens are beautiful tho. You can go to Broadwells to balance it (the costs) out. And don't forget our Farmer's Markets --you can get healthy lovely things there at not so stiff prices.
A bit belated, but welcome to Dave's! From one PDN addict to another...I've probably seen you there, lol!
Bev
From Another PDN addict, I missed both of you .
LOL
Its about time to talk about a fall round -up .
From a Crystal Coast person who still has a house in Raleigh and most of her flowers are still there.
Welcome to the greatest site there is.
Lavina
Don't forget that there will be one here in the summer. Details as soon as I can get them together:)
Bev keep me posted as I am ready to get out of town.
Do you have anyidea when it will be at this time so I can mark my book?
I will d-mail you.
Lavina
Definitely wish to be included in any plant-related gathering in our area! I may not have much to share yet, but would love to just come see what others are doing and talk about plants for our zone/area.
Maybe Bev will answer soon as I nned to come get more of my flowers and can plan around the round up.
She is getting ready to be out for the summer and may be busy right now.
Lavina
So true, Lavina..School will be out soon and then I will be free to make plans and get everything posted. As it stands now, keep July 18 clear on your calendar:) I will post it on the roundup thread and a few others.
Jennifer, never worry if you don't have lots to trade. You will be very welcome and will def. end up with a few 'extras', lol!
Bev
Thanks much Lavina & Bev. I'm supposed to go out of town that weekend, but it's a leisure thing and the plans were quite soft. I'd rather spend time with gardening activities and meeting other fellow gardeners. :)
We usually have a great time and eat lots! Hope you'll be able to make it:)
