Read this article for some basic information. I know there's another thread, but I'll have to find it.

This is basically a way of growing them along the stem, by continually covering all but the very top leaves, until you reach the top of your container.
As far as types - grow what you like to eat!
I grow a variety of potatoes every year - "fingerlings" or "peanut" potatoes are smaller & do quite well. I have not tried this method with Russets or anything that grows large.

I live & garden on the Queen Charlotte Islands, NW British Columbia.
A friend has grown potatoes by just covering them with seaweed, layer after layer in a large container. He was pretty pleased with the results. Seaweed is delivered to my door, so I really should try it for fun. No weeding to do ...

Enye - I love that image of seaweed being delivered to you front door. Is that really true? Do you live that close to the water? Wow.

I live on the Queen Charlotte Islands, yes, right on the shore. Today its 'raining sideways' like crazy. (We have a BIG wind) I don't need to water for sure!

Would love to see pictures (when the weather makes it possible to take them). Stay dry!!
