i already posted these pictures under the seed testing post but thought i would show it here also.
i have been vegetable gardening in 5 gallon containers for many years with good results but i always noticed that my plants and the fruit were never as large as when i had them in a regular garden.
this year i bought these 10 gallon containers from walmart for about 6 dollars each to replace the 5 gallon ones i always used. each one is 16 inches across and 14 inches deep.
my new planting containers
Nice. I'd love to see photos on how your plants do:)
We get tubs like that but ours are 20 gallon size. They also cost $6. We use them for water tubs in the horse stalls. Never thought of gardening in them. I wonder if potatoes might do well in them.
i will post photos all growing season. i believe someone already had a post about growing potatoes in garbage cans. i think it was IO1 (susan)
How many bags of dirt would it take to fill 10 gallons?
depends on how big the bags are.
i have no idea but i would liek to know also.
Here are mine the first year. I am growing tomatoes in them. This will be the third year for them. I don't remember the size but will check when I go to work. Actually it will be the 4th year. The first year I tried strawberries. The big blue buckets are bigger then the large pots.
They take lots of soil. About 1- 2cu.
ves522...Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. :)
What is that in the paths? Straw? Wood chips? Something else?
ves522 - very, very nice
Thanks! It is so easy to take care of and people think gardening is hard! Wood chips in the aisles. I have also used sawdust. Depends on what I can get from the BIL. I prefer the sawdust.
We don't have any of the containers at work. We sold them all.
Ves522,
FANTASTIC!
