Knock, Knock. May I come in?

Travis AFB, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi. I'm Caroline, currently in California, and I'd like to join your gathering, if I may be so bold as to invite myself! I peeked in and saw several acquaintances from an old neighborhood, and I even discovered a fellow bird fancier. I think I’d like this group.

I have three tiny gardens, a wonderful husband, an irritating job, and three lovely budgies. I live a quiet life but I do enjoy exploring, needlework, old books, and textiles. I am an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran and invite you to check out the related sites I've entered on my home page.

I am a southern girl by birth; a cosmopolitan girl by choice; and proud to be an American.

Now, may I pour a cup of tea ~ and pass the chocolates?

Caroline, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintaince. I'm an American girl by birth, a southerner by marriage and the grace of God - and proud to be both! Do you drink your tea sweet? If so, pull up a chair and I'll pour you a tall glass. Or if you prefer, I'll brew you a cup :)

All of you are so kind and "welcoming." I'm here for the long haul.

Go Vols - I'll be right over. Please make my tea hot and strong or cold and strong. As I rule it’s lemon only, no cream, no sugar, unless it's a very formal and "proper" tea time. I'm a plain sorta girl. My former waistline dictates no more sugar for me.

One of my goals in life is trying to get a proper cup of tea in a restaurant. I’ve gone so far as to ask (plead, beg) if I could go in the kitchen and BOIL the water myself. To no avail, I’m served 190-degree recycled coffee water and a limp bag. The tea quest continues!

CoCo - I LOVE Texas and Texans; always have, always will.

Mary E and Lady Stepper - Add sweet woodruff, salvia, evening primrose and coleus to the list. I “forgot” them somehow. My gardens sound more grand than they really are. They're tiny and many of the plants are single specimens, but I love them. I have bumble bees and honey bees and humming birds and tiny toads and birds at the feeders. It’s my home away from home.

Hi Caroline, I used to live in California also. San Diego to be exact. My youngest was born there. My husband is in the military and I am a stay at home mom. I'm a new hand a gardening; just four years old. I grew up though helping my mom out in the garden. It's much different gardening here in the States. I'm from the island of Guam where most of the plants that are able to grow there are tropical or sub-tropical. I'm glad for the diversity that the States have.

Hey and welcome. Please pass the tea.

I'm a yankee transplant to the deep south due to my husband being active duty in the Air Force.

If you haven't looked yet, check out the hosta forum. I see you have that on your list.

See you around.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Welcome Caroline from another Californian and retired Air Force family. We live in So. Calif, not far from Disneyland.

My garden is also small, but does include alot of the same things you have...even hosta (approx. 30). Don't ask where I put them!!!!

Oh, and btw, tea is OK, but I really need my coffee...can't wake up unless I've had 2-3 cups with milk and sugar.

Nice to have another Californian around here for a change...all those easterners are OK, but...they all have funny accents!!!! LOLOLOLOL

Hey smiln32, you must be stationed at Maxwell AFB. Our first assignment in the AF in 1967 was Gunter AFB in Mont., AL. Sure was a unique place back then.

Can you stand another coffee drinker at your tea party? Or please pour me a nice cup of green tea, as I understand it's great for fighting cancer before and after you get it. I agree about the tea in restaurants, and it always seemed so unfair that the server would pass around and refill coffee cups free until Gabriel blew his horn but just leave the tea sippers sitting there unless they wanted to buy another cup. Then I chanced into a little Oriental place in a small, not fancy shopping strip, where they brewed you a whole pot and brought it to the table swaddled in its little tea cozy. This was done in the same way Mexican restaurants bring you a basket of chips with salsa and some steak places bring a cheese wedge and hot bread. And somehow, the tea was fantastic even though it was exactly the same brand usually found in restaurants. I'm fussy about my coffee, too, so usually don't order it unless I just must have a cup of espresso and know the place can deliver. When you come to visit in Texas, I'll grind the beans (roasted in Austin) and make it one small pot at a time, even if we visit for hours! No leftovers or canned stuff allowed, and instant coffee is an oxymoron.

From one bird fancier to another, welcome to Dave's Garden. (Mine is an ornery conure.) I'm pretty much a newcomer, too, but the folks here make you feel right at home from the get-go.
