Weed or Flower?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi,
I have 2 pics. Can someone tell me if these are weeds or flowers. The first actually has some color. I want to find out about the 2nd because there are so many, if they are weeds I need to start getting them out of here.
Thanks in advance,
Vicki

The one at the top with a bit of color is one of the prettiest weeds I know, it's henbit. The round one is also a weed. Both are pretty easy to pull up-especially after all this rain. I'm not sure what the plant in the lowest left is, it's kind of gray-green.

The one on the right is buttercup. It has a tough to pull root so be sure to get it out.

Now is the time to pull buttercup. Most of what you see are seedlings or young plants spread from the mother by rhizomes. They're easier to get out when the soil is wet and now is when they're just starting to germinate. Ask me how I know . . . I grow them a foot and a half tall here. LOL

I hate that buttercup it is a true pest in my garden. The only one that might not be a weed is the silvery on at the bottom and I think that's rose campion. If you already have all you need then pull it up too :-)

PULL THEM & PULL THEM QUICKLY!!!

do you think that put fear into their little rooty feet?

Creeping Ranunculus - it's right up there with the Blackberries...I'd rather dig up a patch of stinging nettles.

I got so many babies up this weekend. I'm thrilled. If I can just keep them under a foot his year, I will consider myself to have made progress . . . and it only took 5 years!!

Kathy - we should have a contest for whose soil grows the meatiest weeds! some of the buttercups have claws for roots; probably the MotherShip...

It's easier for me this time of year when the soil is still wet, but man, when the soil dries out, I can swear that the clay and the ranunculus hold hands while I'm trying to rip them out. :-) Those mother plants are monstrous.

yes - exactly. they "hold hands" on the extreme end of "hold".

The soil has been in this near perfect state lately - releasing weeds easily. Except for a notorious few.

I wish I was out there with you. I have had enough of corporate IT process proselytizing today to make me gag.
