Help. The bluebirds are attacking.

Penfield, PA(Zone 5b)

The eastern bluebirds are attacking my house windows and even my car windows. I closed the curtains but it hasn't worked. I am afraid they are going to get hurt and it "IS" getting really annoying. I love watching the birds and even listening to them, but their claws against my windows sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks in advance, Staci

I've heard that hanging strips of aluminum foil scares them away, as will silhouettes of hawks, plastic statues of owls, and fake snakes. Check with any local bird seed supply store like Wild Birds Unlimited if you have one in your area.

hmmm, wow I don't know.
They usually do that if they have a nest nearby & want you to go away.
They used to dive down at me when I'd be out watering. I'd duck & run! lol
I would think closing the curtains would help, but apparently not.
I'll watch this thread cause I'd like to know myself.
Good luck Staci

Hi Staci, I don't know if this page will help you at all as I haven't had time to read it but I'll post it anyway.

There's really not much that actually works all the time. The birds are seeing their reflections in the windows.

We have the same problem at this time of year and have tried the silhouettes in the windows and they didn't work at all. Then we bought a roll of silver reflective tape at the hardware store and hang long strips of it along the windows where they can blow in the wind. It will bug the heck out of you when it's sunny because the tape will reflect inside the house too, but it's the only thing that works "most" of the time.

If a bird does strike your window and fall to the ground, just leave it about 5 minutes to see if it recovers by itself. Most will, but I've also lost some.

Quoting:
just leave it about 5 minutes to see if it recovers by itself

If necessary, place it somewhere that cats can't get at it
