Meet Crest

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

This is Crest! She is one of my homegrown barnyard mix birds. I think she is just about the funniest looking chicken I have seen in a long time! I love her to bits!

She is probably the result of either my Appenzeller Spitzhaben or my Creme Brabanter rooster. I have no clue who her mom was.

She has a nice alert stance.

She has a very weird comb. It sort of looks like an Appenzeler or brabanter comb, but with two sets of the little "horns" or points, one at the front and one at the back. I have no idea how it will turn out. She's about 9 weeks old.

I think her mom *might* have been a buff orpington. It would fit with the colors, don't you think? Especially if her dad was the Creme brabanter.

You can see why I named her Crest of course. What a cute little black crest on her head! I think it's so funny that it's black, when the rest of her head is gold. It stands out a lot better that way!

I love her steely grey-blue eyes. She is quite prettiful!

My guess is Gold Brabanter for sure.. If it were Spitz, wouldn't the white be dominant and show up somewhere?

Those are pearl eyes and absolutely mesmerizing. :) I read about that in the Standard of Perfection... My Shamo has pearl eyes.. they just grab your attention!

She is a living doll.

I think you're probably right ZZ. Here's her Daddy if it's him.

Here's his front view.

I'm excited, I didn't know about pearl eyes! I think I have a couple of others coming along with that same color.

I love the DOO on Crest! That is one cool chick!!!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

She appears to have several siblings of one sort or another also in the brooder right now - looks like I will have a whole bunch of "chickens-with-doos"!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

LOL They are different. I wonder what they will look like as adults. You will have to give us updates. ;)

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Can I borrow her for my pear tree?

Ginger

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

LOL Ginger - I never thought about it but she DOES look a bit like a partridge! Good point! You can borrow her anytime.

Sewincircle - I will definitely provide updates on Crest, and her top-knotted siblings.

I love the pics of your chicky. I Have cream Brab. eggs in the incubator due to hatch next Tuesday and Wednesday. I purchased eggs from two different breeders, unsure of wether I would win either auction I ended up winning BOTH! Funny how things work out that way sometimes. Your roo is gorgeous!
