leggy seedlings

Mechanicsville, VA

i started some broccoli seedlings and didn't get them under the light soon enough and they are very leggy about 1 1/2 of stem before the first little leaves and falling over. are they worth saving or should i just start over. was wondering about putting some more mix around them to prop them up. thanks for any help.

That happened to me twice. I finally got a light hooked up so I am hoping for better results this time around.

I think that would be worth a try. If it didn't work, you'd probably know in a relatively short time.

I say do it, then let us know how it worked. :)

I've had the problem before. You can plant or re-pot them deeper just like tomato plants and it won't hurt them. Otherwise, mine never recover from those skinny stems and make floppy under-productive adults.

I have planted them deep when I had leggy starts and it worked out ok. I don't believe they make roots along the buried stem, but it doesn't seem to hurt them. They usually germinate very quickly, how far along are they? You could always start more or plant directly in the garden.
