Little orphan without a name

Merino, Australia

Just popping in to admire all the lovely broms and to ask if Sue or anyone else could ID this cute little tillandsia for me
He has been just stuck in the side of one of my epi pots. I didn't know what he was until now and have moved him over to be with the broms. I have not seen a flower as yet.
thank you. Jean.

Hi Jean, no i don't know his name. They all look very similar, those little grey darlings, and until it flowers, most of us are in the dark. I think its NOT, T. ionantha, or T. bulbosa, of which i have a couple. They have taken around 2 years to flower, so don't be surprised if it's awhile till you see a flower. Just enjoy it being a cute little grey thing! They mostly like bright shade (sometimes a bit of morning sun) and apparently air circulation is important to them, although keep it out of any cold draughts.

I was just looking in a book, and thought it could be Tillandsia aeranthos (ear-an-thoss). It describes the leaves as being quite stiff, that keep developing in spirals eventually forming long stems which curve according to light and gravity.
I thought I could make out a bit of spiraling and stemming? It should have pink and blue flowers in spring and can take frosts. It is strictly epiphytic.
And then again, it might not be.
Sorry i couldn't be more help Jean
Sue
ps, still researching plants for your climate.

Thank you Sue. Yes it does have a spiral look to it. The new bits sem to twist around as the stem grows. He would have to be an older one because he was in the epi lot when I bought them. Poor thing was very dead looking so I just popped it in with an epi. He may flower now because he looks a lot healthier and is out in the light with the other broms.
I have 2 little brown frogs in the bigger broms, so they must all be happy.
This is one I just had to buy the other day.

Be careful Jean! You're getting hooked! I was just talking to Chrissy, and explained that I have been researching the cold hardy broms, and am confident I can find some around here to send you both. I have a plan to get to it this sunday, so will post them monday. I WILL let you know when they're on the way!
I love the lizard. I would have bought that too, had i seen it. Oh, no sign of germination on the Werauhia seed as yet! (I didn't date the container-doh) I think it's been about 10 days, so it might be a bit early. The seeds still look good though, nice and clean.
What else have you got?
