Thinking about another experiment and need suggestions here?

Ok, its been rather warm out and dry, and I know my plants gotta be thirsty, so why when I water my EBs, HEBs and HEBuckets does the water almost immediatey come running out the drain hole? Also, I don't like using that dolomite lime,it seems to paste up on me, so I know Tplant, others and the EB people will be enraged but, I'm thinking about adding some to the reservoir or finding another way to get calcium to my plants. By the way if anyone has any other way to get that calcium to plants please holler ok?

I HAVE BEEN USING PURE DOLOMITE LIME FOR YEARS AND NEVER EVER HAS IT CLUMPED? PERHAPS IT'S THE BRAND? VERY STRANGE!!!

You can foliar feed them.

SHHHH, but im sick of the lime too, I got a 10-10-10 with micronutirients and I spray with spray and grow. That will cover me fine.

TPlant: That's funny, cause I'm using your brand. LOL Calm down, I just don't like using it.

Garden Glory: Have you used it before and does it work? And if so where can it be gotten? I was hoping for a solution to add to the reservoir, I mean, the plant will get what is in the reservoir right?

Has anyone used dolomite lime in the reservoir?

I put water with lime, and alflfa tea in mine, but like you say, the water runs out, and I just have regular EB's. The ones that dont drain, well you would just have to play with that, but as long as its organic, it wont kill the plants. I find plants, no matter what kind, like foliar feeding the best.

I have used spray and grow for years. Every year, on daves, there are those who love it, and then those who wont try it because they dont know or think anything is in it. Kinda funny actually.
If you grow bloomin ng flowers, they just love it, and keep things blooming thru our hot summer.

I get those little bags of lime as well, it does clump and I just dont like having to mix it up and tangle with putting the shovel thru the screen. I

if you dont already have a foliar type fertilizer you like, bills is cheap and it works like a champ. You can use your own tho. I will say this, that bills looks like oil and does have a fishy smell. Works like a champ tho, and wont burn or ever harm the plants. That is a blessing for me, I just took out a bunch of daylilies with osmocote....flat out fried them.

Joy -- You have the strange problem?? And the reason for the bold type was sheer surprise as I have never had that problem with dolomite. The pellets simply dissolve as soon as they get wet. All I do is sprinkle a layer, spray lightly as it starts to dissolve and cover with the balance of mix.

Crestview, FL

TPlant: I solved the problem by mixing my Jungle Grow and 2 cups of lime, 1/2 cup of lime at at time to some Jungle Grow in a container and then mixing in real good, adding more Jungle Grow, mixing again and then finally adding alternately and mixing after each addition the lime and the Jungle Grow. So; the lime is actually throughout the container now. But that is fine. It doesn't clump up that way. Dolomite Lime has calcium and magnsium in it, so that is why it is so important to put in the EBs.
Now, here is the question: Do I have to add 2 cups of dolomite lime every year to the mix that I already put it in?

You will have to buy a PH meter available at Lowes to answer that question? I add it as required.

TPlant: Ugh,more stuff to buy, but ok, I'll buy a PH meter, what's the PH supposed to read anyways for tomatoes, cukes, peppers?

For everything and the amount of lime required for your soil. It really is very important for healthy green plants.

TPlant: I know that is next year though, so I can take a breather, I still gotta get more Jungle Grow, have just about exhausted my 12 bags of coconut coir already. Whew. It's getting very warm out, so I'm going to be planting up about 18 HEBs, EBs, GPs and have one lay flat bag left. I'm saving the lay flat bag for the ambrosia melons, and the EBs for the same. My burgandy and green okra can go into the HEBs, they are easy to grow and did excellent in the GP last year. I'm also thinking bout putting my corn in the HEBs when it comes time as they are much deeper than the EBs. I won't mulch cover the corn so I can keep an eye on them better for dampness. They'll be able to grow down further that way. I'm going to plant snow peas, limas, bush beans in a few HEBs but mostly in hanging grow bags and then will plant my okras and melons. I'm off to a late start on my peppers thank to Park's. (groan). I did plant more cukes too, as my bloommaster looks like it will be a disaster.

All transplanting should be done on a shady day or late in the evening as the shock plus the sun can destroy them. They need overnite at least to recover unless they have been previously hardened off?
As far as a PH meter, your investment of $9.00 or less can prove to be invaluable to your work! A reading of 6 or 6.5 is perfect for vegetables and can not be taken for granted no matter what the container mix manufactures may say.

TPlant: Thanks I will remember to get one next trip to town. Aha, maybe my daughter does have something there, she likes the night life and want to always plant at night, when I do it early as possible. Hmmm, thanks.
