Here's some of my seedlings so far. Hope to get my wintersowing done this weekend
YEAH! Spring is here
Joanne
Looks great! you've done a super job!
How did your heaters keep up with your bubble wrap and your - temps?
Ann
Lowest night temp has been 15ºC, so it worked great
Joanna what you have done is just amazing! Thanks for sharing your photo's. I noticed that my silver falls aren't nearly as big as yours are yet but I do see a leaf here and there so they are coming along!
I just love your greenhouse!!!
wow love the green house did you build it yourself and what are you using to heat and how much does it cost lol I am so jealous I WANT ONE TO
I got the greenhouse from Costco.ca I have a propane heater low/hi settings of 4000 BTU & 9000BTU. I also have an electric heater that runs about 3000 BTU on high. I sleep better with the electric heater in there since it is thermostatically controlled, so if the propane runs out or shuts off in the night, the electric one will keep it from freezing. The greenhouse is 12 X 8 and the propane heater keeps it warm. I think the plants grow more with the combustion heat.
how much did it cost
It was $1300 last fall, but that was when the CDN $ was great for buying US product. I think it is +$1500 now
thanks I will have to look into it since I really want one
how hard was it to put together
and what did you do as far as a base for it
Costco has a number of sizes so do check it out. They do take a bit of work to put them together, but the instructions were pretty good. Just need to take your time & follow the steps. It's best with 2 people.
we anchored the greenhouse with auger style pins that Princess Auto sells for tent garages. The greenhouse is bolted on a pressure treated frame (that's anchored). I put about 1/2 ton of small gravel on top of landscape fabric for the base. It's been awesome
thanks so much for taking the time to give all this info
I am off to costco tomorrow to check it out
to see which and how much
I would just check on-line. www.costco.ca
I'm not sure that they have them in the stores yet. They ship it right to your door, so that's great. Big heavy boxes.
wow they are nice love the big one for 5 grand lol now if I can find the bucks I will get one
dont really need it for this year but I want one set up by the fall for next years growing season, we are planning to install a geo thermal heating system by the fall so I will have them vent it to the green house so the outgoing warm air will go into it and keep it warm
Joannabannana When you transplant the lobelia do you plant a few stems together or are they planted one plant to a pot? I have never grown these before and the seeds came up very thickly. It is a very tedious job seperating into single plants. I'm hoping that clumps would be o.k.
Your gh looks wonderful. Working hard on mine but it doesn't look as lush.

I'm going to try to get 3 little seedlings per 1 inch plug. I want to do a bunch of those plastic hanging bags with all the holes.
cool those will look amazing
I have to deal with dinner for the kids now
Wow, that looks really good Joanna!!! After seeing your pics I'm really missing my greenhouse. Your plants are really healthy!!! Congrats!
Im actually going out today to look at some green houses and yes I am allowed to dream and look to as long as it free at the moment
Wow - look at all the green ... Luv your new greenhouse... and the wintersowing photo angle = tres chic!
Sandy
Wow that is just a gardener's paradise in this winter weather!
Joanne
All your stuff looks great! It's so nice to see all that green in all the whitenes we have.
Let me know when the sale is! LOL
Ann
Joanne, Can you remind me where to get the bubble wrap, assuming it warms up enough I want to start the green house in mid April.
Thanks. Theresa
It was Lion's Shipping Supplies
I told GH about your greenhouse and wanting one and he told me he would rather get a large sunroom on the south side of the house and I could use that for the greenhouse so now its in his hands lol I warned him that what ever it is it had better be ready for sowing by january 1st 2010 hahahhaha
Those are huge! Datura?
yup datuaras with blooms on them lol
and I didnt even fertilize those imagine if I had, I would have to move out
they are called lilac and they are suppose to smell nice well the flower at least the foliage smells like all the others they stink but I like them outside so I plant them
Got any inside pets, sciccirella? if so, watch they don't nibble on leaves, even those that drop on the floor. Very toxic.
my cat is sixteen and dog is three they only eat the ones that I eat lol they are smart animals my dog eats the spices in yard all summer but never touchess a plant that is not good to eat lol he eat the viola blooms and a pansy here and there but I alway have daturas and castor beans never had a problem like some people some pets are not all there and dont have the good common sense god gave them or dont use it hahahhahah
my dog will sniff the plants and just walks away maybe he is like that since he is a scent dog/ hunting dog
Well, I guess my cat is not all there and doesn't have the good sense that God gave him.... He was just a year old when he nibbled on a spent Datura leaf that had fallen from a seedling that I was growing on a windowsill. Cost me lots in Vet bills and hours of pain and stress when I thought I was going to lose him. You are fortunate to have such perfect pets.
