Cumin help

POTTSBORO, TX(Zone 7b)

I have not been able to germinate and grow Cumin in spite of the Internet stating it is "Easy"
What am I doing wrong in zone 8B?
It is my favorite spice.
Advice please.

Vort, did you try soaking the seeds overnight? Cumin has a hard seed coat and soaking helps soften it.

They germinate, grow about 2 inches and drop dead. Always!

So, you can get them to germinate. You might be getting a fungal disease known as damping off. Try cutting back on watering once they do germinate. Also, watering with cooled chamomile tea really helps with damping off. Chamomile is an anti-fungal.

I remember reading that in one of your articles now. I am sure I have been overwatering
Thanks.

Didn't you also use a solution of H2O2?

Nope. You must be confusing me with someone else. I haven't written articles for DG. I have written them for other herbal publications, just not here.

That must have been Jill (critter)

Certainly sounds like damping off or similar to me. Cumin is an umbelliferae like dill, fennel, caraway etc. It's quite durable when established and will readily go feral if you let the seeds blow around.

Thanks
