Gingers for part sun landscape in Houston

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have been growing hibiscus, shell gingers and butterfly gingers around my pool. We recently dug everything up in advance of putting in a new fence. The hibiscus was growing over the pool (reaching for the sun). I am thinking that it might be better to plant something which can tolerate some shade (and maybe thrive) than a high sun plant. The fence is on the south side of our yard against some Japanese blueberries in a neighbor's yard that are easily 20 feet high and shade whatever is on our side of the fence. We try to keep them trimmed back to the property line.

I will most likely not replant the shell ginger because it is hard to control. I definitely want some butterfly ginger and hidden gingers. I am thinking about planting some spiral gingers. Can they take partial sun? How much can they tolerate?

I would love some guidance here! Anybody have any suggestions?

I too have a swimming pool and white butterfly gingers would be good plants because they don't shed a lot of stuff. I have them growing between a 3 foot high planter and a fence. They only get a few hours of mid-morning to early afternoon sun, and is protected from the late afternoon sun. Even then, the leaves are a little scorched. But they bloom fine. I have not planted either the hidden gingers or the sprial gingers, so can't help you there.

I have relatives in Houston - great place to grow plumerias and other tropicals. I would think the white butterfly ginger would like the summer rains.
