I have a question. How can I get a hummingbird near my fingers? There was a guy who held food to them and it came so close that it could probably land on his hand. I do think that hummingbirds are shy but also I think that they are supposed to be somewhat social creatures. If this is able to happen for a ten year old, (ME! :D), then what type of flower could I hold? I don't really want to hold a feeder.
Thanks!

How can I?
Stand next to a hummingbird feeder with one finger on top of one of the perches. Stand VERY still, for as long as you can. Then they'll use your finger as a perch while using the feeder.
Keeping still is the most important - hummers respond to movement. The faster and jerkier the movement, the less close they will come. If you have to move, move as slowly as you can.

I have just seen that hummers become accustomed to your presence if you are out in the garden a lot. Pretty soon they don't fly away as quickly when you are around. I was re-potting a coral bush (jatropha) and the hummers (who LOVED the flowers on it) continued to feed while I was doing it.
That would be cute frog...good luck!
What I did is sit holding a small feeder with a finger extended as Resin suggested and they have landed on my finger. The year I did this, I went out on the porch every night at the same time doing this . It took about 4-5 days before they started to come to the feeder. That is cool in and of it's self to see them up close and have them buzzing around your head...which does take some getting used too!!
I tagged this old thread to show this picture.

My mother's husband sits on the porch where the feeders are and they land on his arms.
