Hi Joy,
I am curious to know if you have grown cucumbers in that setup before? When I plant only four in my heb, the mature producing plants drink up the water in the reservoir dry each day. How will you get enough water on a regular basis to your plants so the cucumbers grow and not turn bitter tasting?
Thanks,
Barbara

Probably have to stand there with a hose all day long? I haven't tried this before, so this is a first. Whew been a busy day already, I had the one truck pull up with the 3 hollyhocks, 3 gay butterfly bushes (my daughter wanted them) and the 5 summer cheer daffodils (she wanted those too), the minute I get them all planted and they all went in pots, which I'm running out of, mixed with coir and perlite and of course bone meal for the daffs. Another truck pulls up, my 30 canna babies arrived just before I got the last gay butterfly planted, no pepper seeds yet, man is Park's getting slow these days. I'm going to run out of coir, I can see it now, I'll have to use Jungle Grow in some things. Bought 12 bags of it, so that tells you how much planting I'm doing right? LOL

Hi Joy,

Oh, I won't, always got energy for taking pics, not much for anything else though these days, I planted about 30 raunauchus' too today, they kind of look like roses, the cheap man' s rose I think. LOL

I was going to pick up some of those at Lowes but didnt think they would do well here in FL. What zone are you in? My kind of roses...LOL!

I would thin them out a bit. Once you see the dominate ones, cut the stragglers. How much soil does it hold?

Ray: I really don't know how much coconut coir I used, I mixed coconut coir and perlte with schultz's fertilzer and then layed the mix down until I got to the holes and then put in the plants, coir basket and all, then covered with more mix and then more plants, more mix, more plants and then finally more mix. It seems to be staying wet and well drained, time will tell of course if this will work with cukes or not.

Nothing wrong with experimenting Joy. But I will tell you from my experience with cukes last year. I planted 3 in a 12 gallon container and they were heavy....I mean HEAVY drinkers. I'm a skeptic of hanging planters for many reasons. Most of all I've never seen good results from them. If anybody has pics, I would love to see them to kill the skeptic in me :)

ray: Mine have not done well at all since putting them in that basket. (frown). Think I chose the wrong plant to put in there, maybe peas would have done better?

I don't know Joy. I'm not a fan of any hanging contraption for veggies. Peas might work but I wouldn't 50 in it. I would cut that in 3rds. 16-18 sounds like a try. My main problem with hanging basket is that the water runs all over them.

Ray: You water this one from the top down and it trickles down layer by layer. I've seen flowers in the bloommaster before and when you plant the flowers in there it forms a massive ball made of flowers, cool looking actually, the bloommaster website shows them growing strawberries in this thing; dumby me come up with the not so smart idea of pickling cukes in it .LOL
