s/o most favourite annual, which one did you NOT LIKE?

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

I know it's not considered an annual but I'd have to vote for broccoli. The first year I've had room to grow it. Put 4 plants in one block of garden.

Broccoli plants stunk. Foul. stink, stank, stunk. Perhaps I'll plant on plant per block instead of a block of 4 plants. I'll give them one more chance......they WERE tasty.....

So, did you have any 'failed to meet expectations' in your garden last season?

Japanese Morning Glories..a complete flop!! Of course, I had begun to hang around the Morning Glory forum and notices all of their lovely HUGE flowers. Ordered a bunch of expensive, fancy ones. Alas, they did nothing...barely even grew and I didn't get even a single bloom!

I'll stick to the regular Morning Glories from now on.

I planted nasturtiums last year and to be honest I wasn't all that impressed with them......not sure why but I guess the flowers didn't give me that wow feeling. I know many would disagree with me of course. Maybe it was just he ones I chose to plant - I know there are many types.

I can't remember the name so I know this doesn't help but I planted something that looked similar to daisies but they were purple and very very tiny flower heads.....gosh I wish I could remember the name....anyhow they didn't impress me either - they were too raggedy for me and didn't have that wow feeling either :(

I had 2 flops last year. Asarina climbing Grimplant & Queen of Africa Lace Flower Ammi majus. Also, paid big money for Gloriosa Vine tubers and although the tubers seemed to be ok thru-out the entire summer, they never really rooted or sprouted.

I didn't want to hear that!!
I've been searching for Gloriosa Lily tubers or seeds...maybe I should forget it?

Could have been my fault. Maybe they need a lot of heat & kept on the dry side. I got them from Dominion seeds last year

sometimes when I have a 'failure to meet expectations' in the garden, I'll give the plant/seeds another chance. Perhaps in another location.

Stuff usually gets 3 chances before I chuck in the towel.

I really don't like to 'shovel prune'.

Verbena - some were just lovely ,spreading all out and flowering like crazy, and others just sat there and put out a flower or two all summer. Could have been the source, bought some at superb nursery, all of those did wonderfully. Others I bought at a garden centre flopped, but not all of them - just most of them.

I too had absolutely no luck with the Gloriosa Lily tuber. Nice healthy tuber that has not bloomed in 2 years. I chucked it last fall finally.

I have a pot of asarina from last summer, they've overwintered in the house. I cut them back last fall. Since they really did not get around to blooming before the cold weather set in I brought them in.

I cut them back once more over the winter, and there's a couple of vines about 4 feet long, no buds yet though. They're going to get another haircut before they go out into the greenhouse.

Perhaps they'll bloom a bit better this summer, I'll set them up with a trellis, and hope for the best. I think they'll go in the ground this year, but if they don't do much, off with their heads!
