Asparagus Question

Hello,
I am very excited and need some help. 4 years ago I bought Jersy Knight and Jersey Giant male crowns that were 2 years old at the time. They have done great. Turns out one of the so called male crowns turned out to be a female and I left it in the ground since it does give a few spears. Well, last year I tried to get some of the red seeds to germinate and it didn't work, this year I tried again since I now have a greenhouse and a heat mat. Well, to my surprise a bunch of them germinated and I am guessing but I would say I have 10-14 baby gus plants. They are tiny little ferns and they are so adorable :). Ok, getting my composure back.... What do I do with them now?

I have some 3x3 pots, should I transplant them into those? Right now they are all together in a flat. I would like to try and sell them when they are 2 years old, so I want to find out how to care for them so they will do well.

Thank you for your assistance.

Susan, I do not know about selling them, but if you want to grow them out, as soon as they are big enough, I would plant out in the garden in a nursery row some place. The asparagus seedlings I have grown were all volunteers outside. They are relatively strong plants and should not give you any major problems. Just make sure they get enough moisture when it heats up and keep them weed free. These days I grow 100% purple, as I think they taste better.

Sounds like I should make another raised bed for them and transplant into that?

Thanks for the tips.

Susan, I'm not sure that a raised bed is necessary, but that should work
