Roundup Plant exchange question.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

OK, so this will make me sound really green, but figured I would throw it out there anyway. Obviously the PNW Roundup will be the perfect place to do a plant and/or seed exchange. The seeds are easy---they save until next year. My question is regarding the I have done several trades with gardening friends, but never planned this far ahead of time, and never for a group of people not knowing what people may or may not want.

I have several things that I would love to share if people are interested, but they need to come out of the garden this spring. I have no problem potting things and having them ready for the end of August, but would hate to spend all summer watering a bunch of stuff that is so common that no one would have an interest in it. How do these things usually work? Would it be good to throw a have/want list out there this spring so we can be prepared, or is that too "compulsive". I would very much rather pot my excess plants for someone who would enjoy them than to move them to the edge of my woods which is what usually happens with "prolific" plants in my yard.

Any input that you experienced people have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Julie

Thanks for asking, I'm new too.

"There are no stupid questions" right? :)

None whatsoever.
Easiest way is for you to create a list of what you have to share. Anyone interested can let you know which selections they would like. This works well if you have a limited amount to share.
This is not too early, nor is it compulsive. Rather, it gives time for people to acknowledge your list, and think about where they might have space for any given plant, and prepare the hole, etc. You will need time to dig & pot up your extras, too. So - post away!

Good idea Julie. This gives us time to get new plants rooted. This is my first time - I have never been to a plant swap.

I liked your idea of door prizes, also. I plan to make little seed catching bags like I gave to everyone in the Piggy Swap. I will also make a gardening apron like I made for Starlight in the Piggy Swap. Darn, I didn't take a picture of it, turned out quite cute, if I say so. Another idea might be a concrete leaf, or decorated pots, plant support, plant labels, etc. Anything inexpensive that would be fun. Any ideas, anyone?

I like this idea, have want list.

Lynn, am I wrong? but didn't you go to Gordons? Or I have you mixed up with another Lynn. And thats easy for me LOL

I went to Heidi's to buy some Hellebores. That is where I met you. Gordon's, no, not me.

Okay, got it. I knew we met.

Now I wonder who the other person was, will have to find the old tread. Ladybuggfan (Kris) I Know was there.

Never mind I just anserwed my own Q It was Thistledownfarm (Linda)

I'm a dits

I think it is a great idea to do this list. It's actually quite a bit of work to dig up and divide things, pot them, keep them watered, and then have no one want to take them. Knowing in advance if anyone is interested in them will save that work and also the transporting of them. Also, I don't know about you, but if I have something potted, it is harder for me to throw it in the compost pile. If it's not potted, I can just thank it for its service in my garden and let it go. In terms of seeds, one swap I went to had a table set out just for seeds. People brought their seeds in labeled little bags and sorted them on the table, then people took the ones they wanted from the table, first come, first served. That seemed to work well.

I think it might be easier to refer back to if we have a separate thread for the plant list. Then we can add to it over the summer. Plus, I don't have enough brain cells left to remember everything by end of summer. What do you think?
I like the idea of a table set up for the seed swap. Good thinking, Pixy!
